Gaudis architecture Essay I decided to look at the aspects surrounding the predominately Spanish dish, paella. Obviously the actual dish and the ingredients that make up the dish are the most important components surrounding the meal. Therefore to begin with I decided to draw sliced green and red peppers. Through completing this piece of work I was able to get the texture and the colours of the peppers and use them to good effect. I then went on to draw a clove of garlic. As the clove is mainly white I had to emphasise this by creating a somewhat strong shadow that consisted of many built up colours. Continuing with the theme of ingredients I went on to draw a sliced tomato, which I completed in pastels. I finished by painting some peas and an olive oil bottle from observation. As paella is Spanish I decided to incorporate a Spanish theme into my project. I did this by observing Gaudis architecture, which can mainly be found in the Spanish capital, Barcelona. His work is said to be organic architecture. This was a good aspect of his work as it meant I could tie in the food I had studied, into Guadis architecture. As well as looking at the culture I also decided to look at the working environment that such a dish may be prepared in. Therefore I drew my kitchen sink and its surroundings. I also looked at aspects of the table setting, by drawing a wine glass in white pastels on black paper. To finish my preparatory work I looked at different types of lettering that were used in various different recipe books. To create my finished piece, I tried to tie in all of my preparatory studies into one piece of work. I came up with two designs which I felt were equally good, therefore I decided to do two final pieces. The first piece I did was in batik, the second was done by a use of mixed media, including pencil and pastel work. In the batik piece, I tried to tie in guadis work with my studies of the ingredients, in doing so most of the piece is pattern work, however certain aspects can be picked out of the work. The batik work also creates vibrant colours, which add to the overall effect of the work. The second piece also linked in Gaudis organic architecture. This time I emphasised this a lot more by making the roof tiles seem as if they were segments of garlic. I feel that my final pieces fit the criteria set and clearly show the different aspects that surround the Spanish dish paella. This includes the dish itself, the culture behind the dish and the cooking utensils and implements that are needed to create and enjoy this type of meal.

As she reads about the witchess prophecy of Macbeth becoming king of Scotland, she begins to accumulate villainous ideas in her mind. Only the death of the king would allow the witchess predictions to come true. King Duncans visit to Inverness would be his fatal entrance (1.5.35). The strong ambition within her makes it seem as if she had no conscience or human feeling. Supernatural incidents are what mainly motivates her desire for power. Lady Macbeth would not have wanted to commit murder if the three weird sisters had not said Macbeth would be king. She even mentions how the raven himself is hoarse/ That croaks (1.5.34-35), which foretells the upcoming death of Duncan. Lady Macbeths hunger to be queen is only the start of the immense mask she creates for herself to become the dominating and powerful woman she wants to be. Trying to convince Macbeth to kill the king is a great challenge for Lady Macbeth that allows readers of the play to see the demanding side of her. Because her husband is too full o the milk of human kindness (1.5. 13) to kill Duncan himself, Lady Macbeths domineering traits help them both succeed in their unruly plan to gain the crown. When Macbeth is unwilling to commit murder, she claims that her husband is a coward in thine own esteem (1.7.43) and compares him to a poor cat I the adage (1. 7.45). Humiliating Macbeths manhood is all a part of her deceiving plan to convince him to commit regicide. She is determined that they will not fail if Macbeth would just Look like the innocent flower (1. 5.61) and use a mask to cover his guilt. Devising her own plans, they will blame the murder on the drunken guards who will bear the guilt / Of their great quell (1.7. 71-72). Her idea will succeed as long as they screw their courage to the sticking-place (1.7.60). No doubts or thoughts of failure ever enter Lady Macbeths mind because she is so greedy for the crown that she is willing to risk anything. As she tries her best to hide the murder, Lady Macbeths falseness and frightfulness are moderately beginning to crumble her mask of power. Lady Macbeths guilt gets the best of her during an altered state of mind as she sleepwalks. In her dream, she cannot simply get some water / And wash the filthy witness (2. 2.46-47) from her hand, as she told her husband to do after he committed the murder. By washing her hands, she believed that it would simply wash away her guilt. She desperately tries to wash the blood from her hands and asks herself, who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him? (5. 1.31). She even mentions how her hands would neer be clean (5.1. 34). It was impossible to remove the smell of the blood (5.1.39) even all the perfumes of Arabia could not sweeten her little hand (5. 1.39-40). Not being able to wash the blood away causes her to be hysterical in her dreams. This short scene of a doctor and gentlewoman observing Lady Macbeth displays a great change in her comparing to her dominating character in the beginning of the play. Her weakness finally overcomes her when she commits suicide in Act V. Killing herself was her only way of escaping her guilty conscious and intense fear. Lady Macbeths outer masks of malevolence can no longer handle the tremendous guilt within her. Lady Macbeths dramatic change in her character displays a person who is too weak to carry on their own outer mask to society. Even though she was so controlling and influential to her husband, she could not even handle her own guiltiness within her. Her desire for power and ruthlessness about the kings murder just made her a weaker person by being greedy and desperate. Because of manipulation and evil, even a strong person, like Lady Macbeth, can fall into despair if they cannot reveal their true inner emotions. Wearing a mask cannot hide a problem, nor is it a solution to any problem.

Two thirds of teenage girls and one third of teenage boys do not like their bodies and the weights they are at. Many people suffer from related conditions like bulimia and anorexia but do not meet specific conditions to have their symptoms called that. This category is called unspecified eating disorders. Symptoms of unspecified eating disorders are restrained eating, binge eating, purging, fears of fatness, and distortion of body image. People suffer from eating disorders because of our society standards. Everyone wants to look like a supermodel but not everyone can. They start to obsess about being thin and looking at their normal body weight as being fat when actually they are at a healthy weight. When they start judging their bodies, they set restrictions on what foods they can eat and intense hunger sets in. Normally, they go on eating binges because of the severe hunger pains that they can not overcome. Weight cycling then takes place when dieters go on energy restrictions followed by bingeing. Weight cycling results in losses and gains of weight. This habit can make weight loss much harder over time because it messes up your metabolism. Among people with eating disorders, athletes; primarily dancers, gymnasts, and endurance runners, can be seen with these problems. Society sets guidelines on how thin an athlete should be. Coaches and parents encourage their athlete to meet these standards, forcing many stresses and psychological problems on the person. Female athletes are at greater risk to develop an eating disorder. Once they develop the disorder, they are most likely to assess the female athlete triad. If the female athlete gets these symptoms they develop the following chain of events: disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis. They try to get their weight down by not eating or by going on eating binges and then purging. A better way to check your weight for an athlete is to check your percent body fat. For example, when I was in high school, my wresting team had to cut their weight so they could meet the criteria. They started to not eat meals anymore and then went on binges after they weighed in. Their coach forced these procedures on them to have a better wrestling team. Their percent body weight dropped to about 3 percent and they looked so unhealthy. Their eyes sunk into their heads, and they were always depressed. I definitely don't think any coach should pressure their athletes to do this. It is very unhealthy and causes major problems for the athlete. Why not have an athlete wrestle at their natural weight then have a wrestler suck their weight down by 20 pounds where it is unhealthy. The second symptom of the athlete triad is amenorrhea. Amenorrhea is when a female athlete does not menstruate for three months or more. Amenorrhea is as high as 66 percent in female athletes. This is caused by low estrogen levels, infertility and bone mineral losses. I think if a female has amenorrhea, why would they let it continue? It is so unhealthy, and it can do major damage to the body. You would think that if your period stops, you should do something about it because you know something is going wrong in your body. Some studies show that ballet dancers who suffer from amenorrhea with low body weight have more bone injuries then ballet dancers that have normal body weight.
